Employment Development Advisor (Paisley based)

Ref: EDA/P2W/PAIS
Salary Scale: £17,739 - £19,631 (35 hours per week)

This role involves working on a one to one basis with service users who have a drugs misuse background. You will assist the service users in overcoming barriers they may encounter as they seek to engage in Training, Education and Employment. This will also involve interacting with other agencies in order to help the service users progress.

A driving licence or access to a means of transport would be an advantage as there is some travel involved.

You will have experience of working with socially excluded young people and have the necessary skills to develop and deliver a training programme aimed at addressing individuals employability needs. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work one-to-one and in a group setting with a flexible approach to people’s development.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Post: Employment Development Advisor
Responsible to: Unit Manager
Purpose of Job:

To deliver a service which increases the employability prospects of offenders, ex-offenders and young people at risk in accordance with the philosophy and policy of Apex Scotland and the contractual agreements reached between Apex Scotland and external agencies.

By tackling the supply side of the employment market, the Employment Development Advisor will play a key role in the attainment of employability competencies for the user group.

To ensure the effective presentation of Apex Scotland to local employers, prisons, referral agencies, Social Work departments, Employment Service, training providers and other appropriate bodies.

To ensure effective liaison and co-operation with all relevant agencies.

Area of Responsibility:  
Primary Responsibility:

To provide a professional guidance and support service designed to improve service users' employment and training prospects

To participate in the delivery of contracted training to the designated target group by offering services which meet the needs of service users, funders, the labour market and Apex Scotland's strategic aims

To work in partnership with relevant employers, agencies, statutory bodies and colleagues within the organisation

To be able to evaluate and monitor all work undertaken

To work effectively within organisational budgets.

General Responsibilities: Active participation in:
  • The effective functioning of the team
  • team meetings
  • timetabling to ensure an efficient and effective service is being delivered

Investigate and develop new initiatives within a team setting;
Monitor performance against targets;
Awareness of general developments within and outwith Apex;
Ensure that toil, holidays and working hours are taken with adequate cover to service delivery;
Investigate and develop new initiatives within a team setting;
Actively participate in all administration of the team.

Salary:
Annual increases negotiable according to scales and procedures operating.
£17,739 - £19,631 pro rata per annum.
Pension: Apex Scotland operates a group personal pension scheme available to all employees upon confirmation in employment. An employers contribution equal to 6% is available upon completion of 2 years service, subject to an employees contribution of 3% of gross salary.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Out of Hours Arrangements: Some work out of/or in addition to normal hours will be required. A time off in lieu system operates.
Holiday Entitlement: 20 days pro rata per year (1st April - 31st March), plus statutory national and local public holidays
Training: Apex Scotland delivers an extensive training and development programme to all staff, averaging 9 days training per person per year.
