I have worked for Apex Scotland, Inclusion Service, for 3 years and have learned so much from the young people! My role is now split between Inclusion Team Leader and peripatetic support, where I cover Levenmouth Academy and Dunfermline High School.
I am privileged to have witnessed so many positive changes in the young people I have worked with, many moving onto positive destinations including college and employment.
I have recently started working in the Inclusion service at Kirkland High School. My background is working with young people in secondary schools and have been employed in many roles including Learning Support Assistant, Student Support Assistant, NVQ Assessor, and most recently Adolescent Support Worker. I have worked in several schools, in different countries, over the years and find although every school operates differently, young people are the same, whether they’re from Scotland or Germany – all individuals, with their own sets of beliefs/values and life circumstances, but all young people! My aim is to support young people during a pivotal and what can be a difficult and stressful time of their lives. Every day I learn from them and hopefully they will learn from me!
I am based in the Inclusion service, in both Levenmouth Academy and Dunfermline High School and have always had great enthusiasm to work with young people. In the past I volunteered with the Salvation Army in Glenrothes whereby I helped run the Café for the elderly and was a supervisor at the mother and toddlers group and nursery. More recently, I helped to run a youth club, encouraging children and young people to undertake a variety of activities which were fun and reduced the negative peer influence from some in the community. I also coach football for 9-10 year olds. This is my first job working within a school environment but whilst in my sixth year, I assisted teachers, one afternoon per week, by helping in the Support for Learning base. My aim is to work with colleagues to support young people as best as I can and interact with them in a helpful and effective way to allow them to achieve their potential and progress to a positive future.
