The three young participants in the photos above, Liam Rae, Ryan Millar and Gordon Jardine are on the Get Ready for Work programme delivered by Apex in Dumfries and they recently had their initiative rewarded when they all passed their test to drive a moped. Completed as part of the Skills component of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, the young men undertook research into the cost and practical aspects of securing a license, applied to the Holywood Trust for funding and used this money to apply for their provisional licenses and to pay for their written and practical tests.
Apex Employment Development Advisor Crystal Soltys (also pictured) said “I’m delighted for the boys because they worked hard to achieve their objective. Their confidence has improved considerably and they now have a means of transport to attend college and job interviews.”
