At our AGM in December 2019, Brian Fearon (below right) stepped down as Chair of Apex Scotland. In 2009 Brian was employed by Apex for three months as interim Chief Executive, going on to join the Board the following year, stepping into the Chair’s shoes in 2013. In Apex’s Annual Report this year, Brian said that he was warned when he joined the charity that Apex has a habit of getting into your heart and soul, and since the day he first walked through the door as interim Chief Executive he has never really left.
Brian’s warmth and wit have been good companions through his time of leadership, helping to steer the organisation through the economic valleys that many of us have experienced during the last number of years. We have been grateful for his wisdom and collaborative approach to ensure that when storms have raged over the third sector, our values and principles did not bend or veer off course.
Of course we will miss his Irish blarney charm, but we know he leaves having been impacted by Apex as much as he has affected us.
We are delighted that Gordon Samson has taken over the role of Chair, having been Depute Chair for the last couple of years. Gordon is a strong, active member of the Board who firmly believes in Apex’s ethos and we look forward to his leadership, helping to take Apex forward into its next chapter.
