A Learning Activity is a plan of learning and activity which an Apex Personal Development Mentor will help a young person put together, so that when they are ready they can move on to further education, training or employment. It can include volunteering, short courses, supported learning and practical experiences. Each agreement is individually tailored to the person.
We offer a number of programmes that provides participants with the necessary life skills and experience required move towards positive change. This can include:
- Team working and self management, providing evidence of reliability
- Skills development and careers
- Relationships and social networks
- Voluntary work at outdoor projects
- Desistence from criminal behaviours
- Rehabilitation and disclosure of offences for employment
- CV’s, transferable skills and interview training
- One to one personal mentoring
- A variety of vocational training opportunities
The service is for young people who have left school, and:
- are aged 16 to 17 (in some circumstances young people aged 18 to 19 may also be considered)
- are still aged 15 at the end of the term when they leave school
Young people with disabilities may be eligible up to the age of 19
In Highland, Learning Activities are targeted at young people who may need extra support to find work, training or further education. This includes young people who:
- have additional support needs
- skipped school or were excluded
- have been in care or had support from a social worker
- look after someone else at home
- tried college or a job, and didn’t manage to keep going
- have other problems that make it difficult
Young people can be referred through their careers advisor, guidance teacher, youth worker or social worker.
