Stranraer U Turn Volunteers help save Christmas!

December 16, 2014

Float

Apex U Turn was approached by Stranraer YMCA to help build a new Santa float.  The Santa float is a local tradition that was saved two years ago by Stranraer YMCA after the local Round Table group folded due to lack of numbers.  The float goes round all of the town and every village in the surrounding area and collects money for local charities.  Last year it raised £4500.

The old float was not fit for purpose and the YMCA, knowing of the work done by the U Turn volunteers, approached them to build a new one.  This was a massive undertaking and in total over 1000 volunteer hours were put in to it.  On 29 November the float took centre stage at the turning on of the Christmas lights in Stranraer and got an overwhelming response from the crowds.

Apex’s logo appears on the back of the trailer detailing the work that the U Turn volunteers and staff did on the float.  Well done to everyone who devoted so much time and effort in to this project – you have made us all very proud!

I have enjoyed each session. Some days I didn’t want to leave the house but the thought of going to the Apex group made me get up and go out.
