A team of staff and service users from Apex Highland were happy to join forces with horticultural staff from High Life Highland and Inverness Floral Hall to help with landscaping and to install a life-sized sculpted memorial tree for bereaved parents. The Tree of Tranquility is designed to display bronze leaves that commemorate the short lives of babies that have died and help bring some solace to the parents.
The project was driven by Inverness couple Susan and Andrew Simpson who suffered their own heartache when their daughter Eilidh Beth was stillborn at 34 weeks in 2010.
Apex Highland Personal Development Mentor Donny MacRury said
“When we went on site and explained to our service users what this project was all about, they were overwhelmed by it. A couple of them knew people that this had happened to and were keen to do a good job.”
As well as helping with the landscaping and installation of the Tree of Tranquility, the service users also helped with fundraising events.
