Apex Scotland is the leading employment and training organisation specialising in work with people with convictions.
We are recruiting a part time Personal Development Mentor (PDM) to assist with the running of our Moving In service. The team offers a diverse range of services for young people and adults to help them break down barriers to employment and engage in community activities.
The Moving In service assists people on low income, on benefits, or in crisis by issuing them with starter packs and essential items. The starter packs we provide can contain bedding, towels, mugs, pots, cutlery and crockery. The goods are a mixture of new and second hand. We rely on donations from members of the public and also fundraise to buy goods. We can also give toiletries, toys and clothes for interviews or other important life events. We require someone who has an understanding of the issues faced by people in crisis and with the organisation skills to process referral paperwork to ensure the service runs smoothly and fairly and is accessible for those who need it. Part of the role will be liaising with Moving In and Foodbank service users to look at where Apex or other providers can help them address issues in their lives and help them progress
For this post we are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with effective communication skills and an understanding of the nature of issues that the client group may present with. You must possess the ability to empathise and build trusting relationships with the client group, be approachable and compassionate and have knowledge or experience of mentoring approaches. Experience of working with vulnerable people who may be experiencing difficult times is desirable.
We are also recruiting for a part-time PDM for our Shine service in the Stranraer area. These posts are advertised separately however if you feel you have the skills and would like to be considered for both positions (total of 31.5 hours per week), please mark your application with the reference PDM/STRAN/BOTH. The Shine vacancy information can be found here.
In view of the nature of these posts and the requirement to work with vulnerable adults, the post holder will be required to join the relevant PVG scheme.
