RE:SET – Revising Youth Mindset – is a key component in Apex Scotland’s delivery of effective and time appropriate services with young people experiencing difficulty in, and outside of, the school setting. Using the key pillars of Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) our innovative practice supports national policies and local strategy to ensure young people have equal access to opportunities and positive experiences, regardless of their social context or personal needs. We engage with young people, often with complex needs and vulnerabilities, to help all children and young people overcome the barriers they face.
This initiative is funded to work alongside the school to equip pupils with the motivation and skills required to engage in a formal learning environment; reduce exclusion; raise aspiration; tackle ingrained behaviour; attitudes; improve family relationships and increase attainment and attendance, contributing to more young people entering positive destinations when they leave school.
We now have an opportunity for the right candidate to lead on the delivery of the RE:SET service which is currently run in schools within Fife and Edinburgh. This is a hybrid post made up of 21 hours Team Leader and 14 hours RE:SET Mentor where you will be required to cover front line delivery of the service within our school based units which are currently situated in Fife and Edinburgh. Job share applications will be considered. This post is initially funded for 13 months with the possibility of extension.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can demonstrate excellent leadership, management and networking skills.
You will report to the Schools Development Manager who is responsible for the development and running of the overall service. You will have operational responsibility for the successful day-to-day delivery of the service, including line management responsibility for staff in each school. You will be responsible for supporting programmes to ensure that the RE:SET service meets its strategic goals and performance targets. You will also be responsible for building working relationships with schools and other partner agencies.
You will have excellent communication skills, supervisory or management experience, with the ability to motivate staff and engage with young people.
You will have experience and/or understanding of working with socially excluded young people and be able to develop and deliver a training programme that identifies and meets the needs of individuals. Experience of delivering group work and one to ones to young people overcoming multiple barriers are essential for supporting participants to achieve their potential. The ability to work with a range of other disciplines is also essential. As this post is school based, staff will be required to take annual leave during school holiday periods and not during school term time.
