Working as part of a Public Social Partnership (PSP), Apex Scotland is delivering SHINE – a mentoring service for females involved in the criminal justice system.
Shine women’s mentoring is a voluntary intensive mentoring service providing both practical and emotional support to women who are:
- serving a sentence of less than 4 years not subject to statutory supervision
- on remand
- at a high risk of breaching their Community Payback Order (CPO)
We are looking to cover the Mid and East Lothian areas as well as the Scottish Borders linking in with prisons and criminal justice social work departments. The service aims to support and assist women from an offending background, helping them to develop their own personal identity, skills, knowledge and abilities.
We are advertising this position as two part-time posts, one covering the Scottish Borders (21 hours) and the other covering Mid and East Lothian (14 hours). However, if applicants are aware of the geography of covering all three areas and would prefer to apply for both posts as a full-time position, this will be considered.
For either or both areas we now require a self-motivated, hard working individual who is able to motivate and inspire change in others. The successful candidate(s) will be required to work in a prison environment and in the community and therefore knowledge and experience of working within a prison establishment would also be an advantage. Due to the nature of either post, there will be significant travel involved therefore a driving licence and access to own vehicle or access to a mode of transport would be an advantage. If looking to cover both areas, it would be essential.
The successful candidate will work on a one to one basis with women of all ages who may face multiple barriers to progression, providing advocacy when required and through signposting to specialist agencies. Knowledge of the Scottish criminal justice system is desirable but not essential.
Both posts are for maternity cover for approximately 52 weeks.
In view of the nature of this post, the successful candidates will be required to undertake a PVG check for working with vulnerable adults.
