Read NewsPeople with experience of the justice system are often among the most marginalised in society, yet they are frequently excluded from the very services and opportunities designed to support vulnerability, because of this experience.
Many have experienced significant trauma long before any offence took place. The combined weight of trauma and stigma can entrench people in cycles of harm, limiting opportunity and reinforcing negative patterns. As we often hear from those we support: “What’s the point? People have already judged me for what I’ve done.”
Our role is to interrupt that cycle. We support people to rebuild belief in themselves, move beyond trauma, and break free from their past. In doing so, we enable a future where individuals can thrive, living healthy, fulfilling lives and contributing positively to their communities.
We want to be part of the change. We want to raise their voice. We want to be part of the solution to the greatest issues impacting people with experience of the justice system.
Apex Scotland has spent three years learning what it takes to move beyond trauma-informed practice towards one rooted in trust, wellbeing and empowerment.
RESET was a youth development programme that helped young people at risk of disengagement build the skills, resilience and confidence to make positive life choices. Through workshops, mentorship and real-world scenarios, the programme supported emotional regulation, strong decision-making and positive relationships
