Noel’s case study

Building Skills, Confidence, and Community

Noel first came to Apex Scotland’s Highland Hub through a community service placement. At the time, he had no formal skills and little experience navigating the “real world.” But from the beginning, Noel showed a willingness to learn and grow.

After completing his community service hours, Noel chose to continue volunteering with us – recognising how much the experience was helping him build valuable workplace and social skills.

Through his time at the Hub, Noel took part in a range of activities including mental health-focused groups, woodworking, and grass-cutting jobs. He went from not knowing how to start a strimmer to confidently maintaining equipment, including changing filters.

Noel’s progress has been remarkable. He recently passed his CSCS course with 100%, and is now actively seeking employment. Along the way, he’s developed strong teamwork skills, become more sociable, and built lasting friendships. When he’s not at the Hub, he’s out and about, engaging in his community and exploring new opportunities.

We’re incredibly proud of how far Noel has come. His journey is a powerful example of what’s possible when people are given the chance to grow in a supportive, inclusive environment.
