Apex Scotland is the leading employment and training organisation specialising in work with people with convictions. We currently have a full time opportunity to join our team in Stranraer.
We are looking for a Personal Development Mentor to assist with the running of our Moving On service. The team offers a diverse range of services for young people and adults to help them break down barriers to employment and engage in community activities.
The Moving On service is for people with a history of offending or are at risk of offending. It is tailored to the needs of the individual to help them move closer to sustaining employment, training or education.
The role of the Personal Development Mentor is to help individuals to address issues such as offending behaviour, employability, literacy and numeracy, communication, and inter-personal skills as well as offering a more specialist learning in areas such as the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and disclosure of offences. This service is for individuals over 16 who can be referred to the service through Criminal Justice Social Work or other agencies, as well as self referral.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with effective communication skills and an understanding of the nature of issues that the client group may present with. You must possess the ability to empathise and build trusting relationships with the client group, be approachable and compassionate and have knowledge or experience of mentoring approaches. Experience of working with vulnerable people who may be experiencing difficult times is desirable.
There will be a need to travel therefore a driving license or access to a means of transport would be desirable. Part time or job share options can be discussed, please state on your application
This service is currently funded to 31 March 2020 and we are hopeful of funding beyond that date, however this may not be confirmed until the new year.
In view of the nature of this post and the requirement to work with vulnerable adults, the post holder(s) will be required to join the relevant PVG scheme.

Rate of pay: Salary Scale £20,080 - £22,223 per annum
Hours of work: 35 hours per week
