Personal Development Mentor (Turnaround) – Dumfries

We are now looking to recruit 2 x part time, Personal Development Mentors (PDM) to join our team in Dumfries to cover a maternity leave of up to 12 months.  The team offers a diverse range of services for young people and adults to help them break down barriers to employment and engage in community activities.  We are advertising two part-time posts to deliver both the Turnaround and Shine services at 17.5 hours each.  However if the right candidate could demonstrate the skills needed for both services then we will consider applications for both services, giving a total of a full-time 35 hour post.  Most of our work is carried out between Monday to Friday office hours, however there may be odd occasion requiring out of hours working.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic individuals who have effective communication skills and an understanding of the nature of issues that the client group may present with.  You must possess the ability to empathise and build trusting relationships with the client group.

The right candidate(s) will have an aptitude for managing a caseload of service users and building a mentoring relationship which will enable you to assist them to recognise their strengths, develop their skills and move forward in a positive way.  An understanding of the Criminal Justice system would be beneficial, as would knowledge of the network of support agencies in the area.  You would need to demonstrate flexibility and the ability to deal with challenging situations.

TURNAROUND:  Working in partnership with Turning Point Scotland. The Turnaround service works with individuals involved with low tariff offending, on a one to one basis providing tailored support to help them reach their full potential.  The service is for individuals who are subject to CPOs where additional support is required to address personal issues, health issues and additional learning needs. The service helps enable individuals to become active and valued members of their community.

For either (or both) posts you will have good communications skills, be approachable and compassionate and have knowledge or experience of mentoring approaches.  Experience of working with vulnerable people who may be experiencing difficult times is desirable.

Note:  To be considered for both the Turnaround and Shine posts please submit only one application and use the vacancy reference PDM/DUM/BOTH.

To view the Shine post please click here.

Both services covered by this post are currently funded to 31 March 2018.  All being well with funding we would be looking for the maternity cover post to be up to 12 months.

In view of the nature of this post and the requirement to work with vulnerable adults, the postholder(s) will be required to join the relevant PVG scheme.
