This year’s lecture will be delivered by Michael Matheson MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Justice, on the subject of Fairer Justice: A Vision for Modern Scotland. The event will take place on Tuesday 1 September 2015 at 6.30pm in the Signet Library, Edinburgh.
Over the years the Apex Lecture has been an opportunity for the Justice Community to hear from significant individuals who are not only leaders or opinion formers in their own areas, but also are instrumental in changing the status quo. Apex Scotland has change at the centre of its values and aims, and once again we are delighted to have as our speaker someone who has a key role in leading some of the most significant changes in the Scottish Justice System that any of us will have experienced.
Michael Matheson took over the critical role of Cabinet Secretary for Justice from his predecessor, Kenny MacAskill, also a former Apex lecturer, in spring this year and has already made his mark on a rapidly changing and high profile justice environment. In one of his first opportunities to publicly describe his vision for a fairer justice system in Scotland, he will outline some of the motivations and drivers behind his approach and offer an overview of the many components which make up his complex and demanding agenda.
As always, there will be an opportunity to ask questions following the lecture. Places are limited and a large response is expected so please rsvp as soon as possible to lynn.hannah@apexscotland.org.uk to avoid disappointment.
